Catered chalets in Les Deux Alpes

Les 2 Alpes has a reputation for being one of the most forward thinking ski resorts, trying out modern lift technologies in an effort to transport more skiers up to the best skiing quicker and safer. The Jandri Express is able to take you up the 7km trip from resort to Glacier summit in just 24min! The views on the glacier are spectacular and, with plenty of beginner runs starting up there, all levels of skier can enjoy the wonderful scenery. The more advanced or adventurous are also well catered for with superb off-piste skiing and access over the top/back to the legendary La Grave (arguably the best off-piste ski domain in the world). The 6 day ski pass includes two days skiing in Alpe d'Huez which is a short drive/bus ride away.
Les 2 Alpes is the second oldest resort in France and has largest skiable glacier in Europe. Situated in the Isere region, it is part of the Grand Galaxie ski area, along with La Grave, Alpe d'Huez, Vaujany and Puy-Saint-Vincent. Alpe d'Huez is surrounded by glaciers and so catered chalet holidays here are pretty snow sure, as the area even offers summer skiing. The 2 Alpes refers to the two pastoral communities on either side of the valley, Mont-de-Lans and Venosc, that where joined together to form Les Deux Alpes ski resort. The result is a long narrow resort town with modern purpose built infrastructure forming most of the central bits of the resort layout. Interesting fact: most balconies face south. Les 2 Alpes has everything a top ski resort should including a very vibrant nightlife. The resort is at an altitude of 1650m but has skiable pistes up to 3568m up on the glacier

Resort & Les 2 Alpes après ski

Les 2 Alpes is made up of 3 sectors, as you enter the resort firstly there is Les 2 Alpes 1800, not as convenient for shopping and the nightlife although it does have it own offerings. Next is the major centre with all the main lift, nicely spaced all along the valley. Lastly at the southern end of the valley is Alpe de Venosc which is the most characterful, accessible by gondola and situated right next to the Ecrins national park, it definitely worth a visit. Les 2 alpes offers a magnitude of other activities other than skiing and boarding, including glacier walking, paragliding, snow shoeing, tobogganing and ski joering. Ice climbing is also popular with a 30m artificial wall and the frozen waterfalls in the Ecrins national park. Other off slope activities are outdoor swimming, the facilities at the Acquacentre, ten pin bowling, snowmobile excursions and ice skating. You can also take a crawler carrier and do a “cruise” around the glacier at 3600m. There is an interesting avalanche exhibit with simulator and the Grotte de Glace is a must see, created by two mountain guides a number of years ago, the caves have ice sculptures of fairytale figures and dinosaurs, although these may alter slightly year on year. You need to take a ski lift and funicular to get there. There are plenty of shops, restaurants and bars to entertain you in the town itself.
There are more than 50 rstaurants in les 2 alpes ranging from creperies to fine dining with traditional food. Some recommendations include La Grange, The Patat and Crepes a Gogo, which does more than just crepes. Good value food can be found at Bleuets Bar, Vetrata, Spaghetteria and Smokey Joe's, which also shows sports and stays opne late.. Apres ski is big in Les 2 alpes with jumping bars open till late. Try Smithy's Tavern, Pub le Windsor, the Polar Bear Club and Secret which has live music. In 1800 O'Briens is a good choice and the Opera nightclub is the recommended by locals. In Town the main nightclub is at the Venosc end of town, The Avalanche.

There is only one easy route back into town and is now has with sno cannons to ensure snow cover.
