Catered chalet holidays in Courchevel
If you like a bit of glitz on your ski holiday, but you also want to ski the world's biggest and best pisted mountains, then Courchevel is the place for you. It's small wonder that this world-beating combination of the Three Valleys (with over 600km of piste) along with the glamour, grandeur, even extravagance of Courchevel lure people back to this wonderful resort year after year. The resort is made up of a number of villages each higher than the last on the twisting road up the mountain. The lowest Le Praz is pretty and a little quieter, and then further up you have the slightly busier villages of Courchevel 1550, 1600 and 1650. Finally your ascent culminates in the famous international playground Courchevel 1850, complete with its own little airport.
Courchevel offers value in catered chalets to match any resort, but it's not the place to look if you're keen to ski the awesome Troi Vallees on the cheap, as even self-catering apartments are of at least a middling standard. The traditional Savoyard architecture, as in the entire Terentaise valley, is wonderfully crafted and in 1850 in particular the feel is affluent throughout. We love all of the villages because they each provide a great experience in a different idiom. From the absolute luxury to the reasonably affordable, to the pleasantly priced, each chalet experience in Courchevel is unforgettable because the levels of service are surpassed only by the stunning mountain setting. Catered chalets in Courchevel are scattered amongst the abundance of often grand hotels and often have equally good locations in relation to pistes, lifts and the resorts centres.
VIP skiing in the world's top ski area
As part of the now legendary 3 Valleys, Courchevel has access to the most extensive fully linked and piste ski domain on earth, but we love it for the superb skiing on its own slopes.
Experts and those without fear will love tackling the popular black runs of Saulire such as Jean Blanc and Jockeys or getting up the nerve to take on the famous couloirs up at Loze and the Ugly Sisters, but the real strength of Courchevel skiing is in mile upon mile of superb terrain loved by we lesser mortals.
Put on your Gucci shades and go learn to ski on the superbly gentle Biollay area with easy greens and blues that are wider than a billionaire's super-yacht. Intermediates will love cruisy days in the sunshine riding down the gentle blues and flattering reds of Chanrossa and Signal, before moving on to a more adrenalized day or two on Saulire (if you've got the minerals).
With skiing and snowboarding every inch as top-drawer as the chalets, Courchevel virtually guarantees an unforgettable ski holiday.
Courchevel resort and apres ski
Formerly the winter haunt of British old money, Courchevel 1850 now attracts a much wider range of clientele and has become internationally renowned in recent years for the extravagance and excesses of the Russian super-rich. In particular it is here you may get your first glimpse of that fabled beast the “Armani Snowboarder” with all the trimmings, strapped in and carving up the piste. With some of the best restaurants and most exclusive après ski in the world, Courchevel 1850 rightly deserves its reputation as the St Moritz of France.
